Simple Breakdown: Our Political System is Working Fine

Please try to understand this fact: the events from the PRESENT always seem MUCH Greater and MORE Dire than events from the PAST.  Please ponder this point for a moment because it really demonstrates the essence of this little article.

After closely studying our political environment for over a decade, I’ve become thoroughly convinced our political system is working precisely as our Founder’s intended—even today.  Indeed—much drama and hyperbolic rhetoric dominate our political arena.  This is not bad.  For without drama and hyperbolic rhetoric, no one would pay attention to our current issues—especially, in today’s ever-increasing informational era.  Garnering anyone’s attention nowadays has become quite challenging with our very busy lives.

Our system really is still working well with its many checks and balances.  When we vigorously argue issues, we create better outcomes—for blindness surrounds themselves with no dissenting views.  In order for us to vigorously debate today’s complex issues, we must first attract people’s attention using graphics, loudness, dramatics, and other means; and then make people care using hyperbolic rhetoric pulling our emotional strings of right and wrong.  That is the essence of politics —arguing right and wrong.

When we have opposing sides fiercely arguing a specific issue, it crystallize our thinking and the eventual solution.  Yes—it is messy.  Yes—it is confusing.  Yes—it is obnoxious.  And Yes—it is frustrating.  But it works.  When we do not have opposing sides to an issue, the issue is minimally discussed and scrutinized for an optimal solution.  And with our two-sided political system, we are currently scrutinizing every action and in-action of the other side.  Each side is thoroughly keeping the other in check.  You may disagree but this is absolutely happening.

Let’s take our current President without naming him since naming him will create too much emotion to foster a rational discussion.  Whether you like or dislike this President, we are absolutely and intensively scrutinizing him—as it should be and as we do for all our current Presidents.

First, we have ongoing 24-hour cable news, social media, and news articles espousing their opinions day-in and day-out.  Through these outlets, we actively and fiercely scrutinize every action and in-action of a President.  Our current Presidents live under the greatest microscope ever.  With every action or in-action of a President, there lies fierce opposing interests from political parties, companies, organizations, countries, etc.  These opposing interests strongly debate the “incorrect” decision of the President.  Transparency is prevailing.

Secondly, we have had one of the most intensive investigation into our current President and his potential ties with Russia and the interference with the 2016 election.  This issue has been thoroughly scrutinized and examined from numerous angles and investigators.  The information is out in the public domain on what happened—transparency is prevailing.  We, as voters, can now use this information for the next election.

Thirdly, regarding the current impeachment, we have and continue to intensely investigate the appropriate conduct of a President. We have interviewed numerous witnesses and obtained numerous documents regarding the President’s conduct to understand, in great details, what happened including people’s beliefs—transparency is prevailing.  Now, we are actively debating the rules and laws governing the separation of powers’ principle within our Constitution—such remarkable brilliance and foresight our Founders had.

I do believe a president can be impeached for anything Congress chooses since impeachment itself is entirely political—however, the threshold to remove a President from office is very high needing 67 senators to assent.  The Founders made the reasoning for an impeachment vague (Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors) to grant Congress the authority to determine the appropriateness in the future because no one can predict what the future may bring.

So yet again, our system is working.  For those of you on the Left, the President was indeed impeached, and we have debated the merits of the case for months.  And for those of you on the Right, the President was not removed from office because Congress represents their constituents and there wasn’t 67 percent of the population wanting the President to be removed from office.  Both sides are listening and servicing their constituents.

All this shock and awe brings attention to our current issues.  Our times are clearly not as dire as so many people claim and think.  We hear the word unprecedented being stated all the time.  Yet, so many positives continue all around us—jobs, economy, relative peace, etc.  For as much as you find things dire, you will find more things to hope for.
